Who we're here to support
We’re here for people aged 13-17 (and aged 18 if you’re in further education) in Newcastle and Gateshead.
We give free, confidential walk-in support (along with telephone and online appointments if you prefer) on Wednesday-Sunday, 4pm-8pm. You don’t need a referral, you can just turn up.
And coming soon to Gateshead… Nook Gateshead will be opening in summer 2026! We’ll post all the details here when it’s ready.
How we can help
We’re here to:
- Help you understand yourself, including ways to manage your thoughts, feelings, and friendships.
- Help you to grow in confidence.
- Help you feel safe, steady, and in control.
- Make a simple safety plan with you, to give you ways to cope right now, find things that help you feel better, and choose trusted people you can turn to for help in the future.
It’s a safe, non-judgemental space where you can come and talk to a professional about your mental health. You don’t need to speak to your GP or any other healthcare provider first, you can just drop in!
Anyone aged 13-17 (or 18 if they’re in full-time education) in Gateshead or Newcastle.
If you’re 18 or over, we have safe havens for adults in Northumberland, Newcastle, and North Tyneside.
No. This space is for you, and everything you tell us is completely confidential. We would only talk to your parents or guardians if we felt you needed extra help staying safe.
Yes. Our teams can talk to you about neurodivergence and what this means, whether you have a diagnosis or not. This could mean explaining what it is, helping you find ways to cope, advice on school, and other areas of support.
Yes, if you’d like someone to accompany you, whether that’s a friend or family member, to help you feel safe that’s absolutely fine.
That’s okay! You can come and visit us and have a look around the waiting area, and when you’re ready to talk we’re here.
A member of the team will have a chat with you about how you are feeling, what you’re thinking, and what you need support with (it’s okay if you don’t know how to name it!). They’ll also ask about your home and personal life, and from there they’ll make a decision with you about next steps and support.
That’s different for everyone. Our teams are trained on a wide range of mental health issues, so we will give you help however you need it. This might be a referral to another service to provide long-term counselling, showing you more information so you can self-refer, or just keeping the door open if you need us again.
No, we want to see you well before you hit a crisis point! We’re here to help you understand your mental health and how best keep healthy, and how to manage any difficult feelings you might have.
