Phobias are a common type of anxiety. Having a phobia means that you have an intense fear of a specific situation (such as heights or flying) or an object (such as spiders or blood).

Phobias are irrational, persistent, excessive, and can significantly affect your daily life.

Symptoms can include:

  • Almost immediately feeling very fearful and anxious about a particular situation or object.
  • Your fear is out of proportion to the actual danger.
  • You avoid the situation or object you have a phobia of.

Your phobia might stop from doing some activities that you enjoy or are important to you.
