Paul, one of our Mental Health Nurses, has been sharing what his role is like on a day-to-day basis.
“My days are varied, some days can be straight forward, carrying out allocated clinical tasks, engaging with residents, planning activities, coordinating colleagues to meet the residents’ needs and wishes. However, some days are more disjointed due to the nature of our environment.
The role is rewarding because I feel like I am making a difference to the people I support, whether this is a colleague or service user. I feel like a valued member of an effective, caring team, that provides a high standard of personalised care.
What makes my role so fulfilling is working together as a team to provide the best care possible for the people we support.”
We have been catching up with Sophie, one of our fantastic Clinical Leads.
Sophie is a Clinical Lead in Alderwood, one of our 24-hour specialist older adult care nursing homes.
Sophie’s background is in general nursing, this expertise is useful when it comes to supporting our service users with their physical health as well as their mental wellbeing.
Before becoming a Clinical Lead, Sophie also worked as a Support Worker at Alderwood where she realised her passion for dementia care and gained lots of experience.
We asked Sophie about what it’s like to be a Clinical Lead at Everyturn Mental Health.
“My role can be challenging, but it’s so rewarding.
Building trust and good relationships with residents then noticing positive outcomes is so fulfilling. I have a real feeling of accomplishment at the end of the day.
My days are planned and structured, but I’m also ready for things to not go that way! It can be challenging to see service users in distress with their mental health, but I always strive for the best for the residents and ensure they have a good quality of life by advocating for them and providing a good support.”
We have also been talking to Deborah.
Deborah began her career as a community support worker providing end-of-life care, before training to be a Mental Health Nurse. During her training, Deborah completed a placement at Alderwood, from which point she knew she wanted a career with Everyturn Mental Health supporting older adults.
After qualifying, Deborah started working at Pinetree Lodge as a Staff Nurse. Deborah has progressed through the organisation and now works as Service Manager at Briarwood, another of our 24-hour specialist older adult services.
Deborah shares some insight on her role:
“My role as Service Manager is diverse and rewarding.
The unit is fast-paced and can be challenging, but it’s worth it to achieve the right outcomes for the people we support. I enjoy looking for solutions and I care about making a difference to the people and families who access our service.”
Julie is a Nurse Support Practitioner at Pinetree Lodge, one of our specialist 24-hour dementia nursing homes.
“Every day is different! I look forward to seeing residents and colleagues and making their days count.
I care for residents making sure their day is the best it can be, this includes arranging any activities they would like to participate in or even just being there as a friendly ear to listen.”
Jordan is another of our fantastic Nurse Support Practitioners at Pinetree Lodge.
“As a team we work together to provide the best care possible for the people we support.
We are a fast-changing unit and we respond to the needs of the people we look after throughout the day.
It can be a challenging role, but if you’re up for the challenge it will be great. We are a great team and work together to help support each other.”
We’re so proud of our colleagues, who go above and beyond to make sure no one struggles alone with their mental health.
