When you arrive to the Safe Haven, we’ll ask you some brief questions at the door to make sure it’s safe for you to enter. If we’re worried about your or our other visitors’ safety, we might direct you to other local support.
When you come in, we’ll offer you a place to sit and have a drink. We’ll ask you to complete a form which will help us to understand your goals for your visit. We’ll help you to fill in the form if you find it difficult.
We’ll offer you a private one-to-one session to help reduce your mental health crisis, create a safety plan, and meet your goals. You don’t have to have this session, and can spend time in the shared space instead, but we’ll check in on you to see that you’re safe.
At the end of your session, your support worker will agree any actions with you and check in with how you’re feeling compared to when you arrived.
You can leave whenever you like, but our team will continue to support you until you feel the crisis has passed.
Please note:
Our face to face and virtual appointments can last up to an hour. This allows our team enough time to plan the right support for you. We’d recommend anyone needing our service, visits an hour before closing time at 10pm.
We’ll never turn anyone away. If you can’t access our service with an hour to spare, we can still offer you support and signpost you to any out of hours services that can help.
We’ve worked with our partners to offer these other support options:

The SHOUT crisis text line offers 24/7 mental health crisis support via text message to people across the North East and North Cumbria.
To get started, text CALMER to 85258.

Qwell is an online peer support platform which includes professional support if you need it. It’s free for Northumberland residents – to sign up visit Qwell’s website.

Keep in mind that we can only consider bookings that are at least two weeks in advance. If you need something sooner, feel free to send us an email and we’ll see what we can do.
If your booking is confirmed, we’ll be in touch to let you know our house rules, how to access the space, and what to do if you need to cancel.
