The Health and Social Care Committee has published its Community Mental Health Framework which highlights “serious and persistent gaps” in community mental health services across England.
The report highlights issues such as long waiting lists, people being discharged too early from support services, or only receiving support when they are at crisis point.
At Everyturn Mental Health, we welcome the Committee’s report, which we contributed comments to, with its focus on integrated mental health support in the heart of communities. Its recommendations support the NHS 10 Year Health Plan goals of increasing community-based, preventative care.
We’re proud to be part of this shift, as a partner in one of six pilot 24/7 community hubs commissioned by NHS England, Hope Haven in Cumbria, which brings together a range of community partners to provide joined-up care. Everyturn’s existing North East Safe Havens already show the impact of services that are designed around people and the unique needs of their communities.
“For the first time, in a long time, I feel some relief. I feel like me again. I feel so positive about my life and the future now. I couldn’t have done it without you – I’ve got light at the end of the tunnel and you have helped save my life”

Liam Gilfellon, Everyturn’s Project Director, commented:
“We welcome this report and its clear message: meeting growing demand means thinking differently about how and where support services are delivered. We can’t rely on increasing clinical capacity alone, but we can build a supportive, person-centred system in our communities.
“By creating new, accessible routes into mental health support, we open the door for people with valuable life experience to bring their skills into roles that truly make a difference and ensure that people get timely, compassionate support where and when then need it most.”
“We’re proud to work with local community organisations and the NHS to help turn this ambition into reality, so people don’t continue to fall through the gaps or struggle alone.”
