Get Urgent Help

Following the success of Nook Newcastle which launched this April, we’re delighted to announce that Nook Gateshead will open today.

A partnership between Everyturn and Children North East, Nook Newcastle and now Nook Gateshead offers mental health support to 13-17 year olds (and people aged 18 who are in further education) in the North East.

The Gateshead service will be based at 14 Regent Terrace, Gateshead and will offer free walk-in support from Friday to Sunday, 4pm – 8pm. Online and telephone appointments are also available. Young people can access the service when they need it, without needing a referral from a GP or healthcare professional.

Funded by NHS North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board, this pilot will offer welcoming, non-clinical support for young people, giving them an alternative place to access support with anything that is causing them distress.

Both Nook Newcastle and Nook Gateshead teams will also work closely with existing NHS teams, local schools, councils, and community partners to give young people the ongoing support they need.

Mandy Coppin, Head of Children and Young People’s Services at Everyturn, commented:

“We’re thrilled to be opening Nook Gateshead this week and extending our service to even more children and young people in the region, continuing to show our commitment to listening to young people and creating support that truly meets their needs.

“Both Nook Newcastle and Nook Gateshead offer the right help at the right time, without judgement or barriers, and we’re here to make sure every young person who accesses our services feels supported so no one has to struggle alone.”

Leigh Elliott, Children North East CEO said:

“This is another important step forward in our mission to support young people across the region. Expanding our offer into Gateshead will enable us to reach young people in crisis — when they need us and where they live.

“Together with Everyturn, we are committed to ensuring every young person has the tools they need to grow up happy and healthy, and with strong mental wellbeing. This new drop‑in service is a vital lifeline, providing immediate support to young people in crisis and ensuring they receive the right help, at the right time.”

Nook Gateshead will offer support Friday – Sunday, 4 – 8pm, alongside Nook Newcastle which will continue to offer support Monday – Thursday, 4 – 8pm at The Beacon, Westgate Road, Newcastle upon Tyne.
